State of Play September 2026: Every PlayStation Release Date and Reveal
Sony ran two showcases back to back on September 3, 2026, the main State of Play followed by a State of Play Japan segment. New gameplay, confirmed dates, DLC, hardware, a few surprises nobody saw coming.
The dates worth marking
Three releases already have hard dates. Marvel’s Wolverine arrives September 15, 2026, with Insomniac’s final trailer ahead of a global launch. Ghost of Yotei: Complete Edition follows on October 1, bundling the Echoes of Sekigahara expansion and a new single-player roguelike survival mode called Most Wanted. Square Enix closed the night with the one people had waited years for. Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the third and final entry in the remake trilogy, is dated April 8, 2027, and got roughly ten minutes of gameplay.
The reveals that were not on the board
The middle of the show was where the surprises sat. Maneater 2 turned up as an unannounced sequel. Metro 2039 showed its first gameplay running on PS5 Pro. Capcom gave a proper look at Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, and Crimson Desert revealed a new expansion, Charting the Unknown. Rhapsody in Scarlet joined the slate as a fresh reveal. Until Dawn 2 also picked up a date, January 28, 2027.
Beyond the games
Not everything was software. Sony showed two limited-edition Grand Theft Auto VI DualSense controllers, standing in for the game rather than new footage. A near life-size LEGO PlayStation model made an appearance. PlayStation Plus picked up new additions, Saros is getting a free Zenith update later in 2026 with New Game Plus and accessibility options, and Gran Turismo 7 Spec IV adds cars, circuits, and a new Family Mode.
The Japan showcase went deeper
State of Play Japan carried its own reveals, heavy on RPGs and anime titles. Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 is confirmed for 2027. Fate/Extra Record, a ground-up remake of the 2010 dungeon crawler, is dated January 28, 2027. Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World arrives December 3, 2026. Cygames announced Where the Seeds Fall for November 5, 2026, and Daba: Land of Water Scar is targeting spring 2027.
What’s actually worth blocking off
That’s a lot of dates for one calendar year. Realistically, most people are picking two or three from this list, not all of them. Wolverine and Ghost of Yotei are the near-term ones. Everything else is a 2027 decision you don’t have to make yet.
