Ryu and Ken’s Rivalry Takes Center Stage in New Street Fighter Trailer

Ryu, played by Andrew Koji, and Ken, played by Noah Centineo, had a falling out before the events of the film. The new trailer opens with that fracture already in place.

Two Fighters, Two Paths

Ryu now lives a quiet, isolated life, while Ken has thrown himself into martial arts to prove he can stand on his own without his “brother.” That tension boils over in a brutal early clash, where Ryu’s signature fireball attack sends Ken crashing through a wall. The trailer, released September 1, 2026, opens on that fight before pulling back to show how the two friends drifted apart in the first place.

The film is set in 1993, well before either fighter earned the reputation the games built around them. It draws from the Street Fighter series that launched in 1987 and has sold 60 million units since.

Chun-Li Pulls Them Back In

Chun-Li, played by Callina Liang, then tries to recruit both fighters for the World Warrior Tournament, where they are set to face M. Bison. Ryu initially refuses, saying he is on a new path that does not involve combat, until Chun-Li warns him that Ken is in danger and tells him he must enter the tournament to save his old friend. From there, both fighters face a lineup of familiar names, including E. Honda, Vega, Dhalsim, Guile and Blanka.

The Rest of the Roster

The trailer also offers a look at David Dastmalchian’s M. Bison and Roman Reigns as Akuma, with Jason Momoa, Cody Rhodes and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson rounding out the cast. Behind the camera, the film comes from director Kitao Sakurai, who also co-wrote the script with T.J. Fixman. Sakurai told Empire Magazine he wanted a film that “didn’t feel like an off-the-shelf video-game movie.” Danny and Michael Philippou were originally attached to direct before stepping away to focus on their 2025 folk horror film, Bring Her Back.

Street Fighter hits theaters on October 16, 2026, distributed by Paramount Pictures.
