HBO’s Harry Potter Teaser Takes Fans Back to Hogwarts
HBO has released a new trailer for the “Harry Potter” television series, giving fans their most detailed look yet at Hogwarts.
The season is titled “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone,” and it follows Harry Potter (Dominic McLaughlin), Hermione Granger (Arabella Stanton), and Ron Weasley (Alastair Stout) as they take their first steps into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
From the cupboard to the letter
The trailer opens on Harry’s life before Hogwarts. He lives in a cupboard under the stairs at the Dursleys, bullied by his cousin Dudley and given a painful haircut by Aunt Petunia. “There is nothing special about Harry Potter,” she insists. Hogwarts has other ideas, and everything shifts once his acceptance letter arrives.
The road to Hogwarts
Hagrid steps in to explain the Wizarding World and walks Harry through Diagon Alley for his school supplies. “Family is more than just blood,” he tells him along the way. The pair board the Hogwarts Express together, and Harry arrives at a school reimagined with a more natural, grounded look than earlier adaptations.
Inside the castle
Once at Hogwarts, Harry, Ron, and Hermione take part in the sorting ceremony, welcomed by an enthusiastic Dumbledore. McGonagall explains that first years go through the sorting before the start-of-term banquet, and the trio settles into Herbology and Defence Against the Dark Arts classes. On the Quidditch pitch, Severus Snape has a message for Harry: “Let’s hope you show some talent on the Quidditch pitch, Potter.” The teaser also touches on the group’s discovery of the legend surrounding the Philosopher’s Stone.
A growing cast
Beyond the trio and Hogwarts staff, the series brings in Neville Longbottom (Rory Wilmot), Draco Malfoy (Lox Pratt), Seamus Finnigan (Leo Earley), Dean Thomas (Elijah Oshin), Fred and George Weasley (Tristan and Gabriel Harland), Percy Weasley (Ruari Spooner), Parvati Patil (Alessia Leoni), Lavender Brown (Sienna Moosah), Vincent Crabbe (Finn Stephens), Gregory Goyle (William Nash), Professor Filius Flitwick (Warwick Davis), and Professor Pomona Sprout (Sirine Saba).
What comes after season one
This is the second trailer for the series. The first teaser, released in March, drew more than 277 million views within 48 hours. The eight-episode first season adapts the first book, and HBO has already ordered a second season based on “Chamber of Secrets.” Kit Harington has joined that season as Professor Gilderoy Lockhart, replacing Nicholas Hoult, who exited due to scheduling conflicts.
“Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” premieres on HBO and HBO Max this Christmas 2026.
