IV of Spades Releases “Isang Pag-ibig”
IV of Spades, made up of Unique Salonga, Zild Benitez, Blaster Silonga, and Badjao de Castro, released “Isang Pag-ibig” this week, through Sony Music Entertainment. The song itself is much older. It was written near the start of the band’s story, and a snippet of it first surfaced on their SoundCloud back in August 2015, years before “Ilaw sa Daan” and “Mundo” made them a name people actually knew.
The Song Itself
It’s about the search for real connection, and the harder realization that giving someone everything doesn’t guarantee they’ll love you back. Nothing revolutionary there, but the band doesn’t dress it up either. Jangly guitars, a three-chord loop, four people playing in a room. That’s it.
Why Now
The timing is the interesting part. IV of Spades reunited in late 2025, and since then they’ve barely stopped. A new album (Andalucia, 12 tracks, out in November) with “Aura,” “Nanaman,” “Konsensya,” and “Suliranin” on it. A nationwide tour that hit Davao City, Santa Rosa, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu City, and Baguio. Now they’re circling back to grab a decade-old demo and finally give it a proper release.
The Video
Kris Cazin directed it. The band plays on a rooftop, which is clearly a reference to The Beatles’ last public show in 1969. Whether that’s a little on the nose is up to you.
Ten years is a long time to sit on a song. Worth the wait or not is really down to the listener.
