VisionQuest Trailer Puts Vision and Ultron Side by Side
Marvel dropped a new VisionQuest trailer on Thursday, two weeks before the series starts on Disney+ on October 14. In the two-minute preview, Paul Bettany’s White Vision works with Ultron, the villain he once fought. James Spader is back in the role.
Ultron gets a face
Spader voiced Ultron in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. This time he also appears on screen, as a bearded man in glasses who lives inside Vision’s mind.
Ultron still sounds like Ultron. A voiceover in the trailer has him saying he is going to finish what he started all those years ago. Showrunner Terry Matalas has said Vision backed Ultron up in his own coding, which is how he came back.
Back in August, Bettany and Spader introduced the first trailer on stage at D23. When the talk turned to who you would most want beside you in an existential crisis, the answer was Ultron. Spader’s deadpan reply: “Frankly, I can’t believe it took you so long to turn to me.”
Vision figures out who he is
Bettany plays White Vision, the rebuilt version who showed up at the end of WandaVision and was given Vision’s memories. Matalas has compared his situation to Spock’s in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.
The series follows Vision as he tries to figure out who he is. In one scene he sits in a theater while clips from Infinity War and WandaVision play on the screen. He thinks about Wanda.
A boy who might be his son
Ruaridh Mollica plays Thomas Shepherd, a boy who may be a reincarnated version of Vision’s son, Tommy Maximoff. A bounty on Vision’s head puts him on the run.
Jocasta is in the cast too, played by T’Nia Miller. In the comics she debuted in 1977’s Avengers #162, built by Ultron to be his wife.
How it wraps up
VisionQuest runs eight episodes and closes out five years of Wanda and Vision’s story. It is the third show in a run that started with WandaVision and continued with Agatha All Along. The series premieres October 14 on Disney+.
