Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew Trailer Shows a Colorful, Big-Screen Start to Narnia
Netflix released the first trailer for Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew on October 13, 2026. Greta Gerwig wrote and directs the film, which adapts the 1955 C.S. Lewis novel about how Narnia began. No one has put the book on screen before.
Aslan gets a voice
The Magician’s Nephew was the sixth Narnia book published, but it comes first in the story’s timeline. Gerwig says she read it as a kid and loved the idea of “a cosmic lion singing the world of Narnia to life.”
Meryl Streep voices that lion, Aslan. In this version he has multicolored eyes and a red-striped face. Gerwig also credits David Bowie as an inspiration for his look and for the feel of the film.
A magician lives next door
The trailer opens on the wardrobe from the first Narnia book. Then it cuts to two kids, Digory (David McKenna) and Polly (Beatrice Campbell), playing in a bomb-damaged London. They suspect their neighbor, Uncle Andrew (Daniel Craig), is a magician. He confirms it.
In the story, the friends touch a magical ring and land in another world, where they wake a sorceress. Emma Mackey plays Jadis, who becomes the White Witch. The first poster shows the kids riding Fledge, a winged horse.
Built for the big screen
A preview event in New York showed the size of the practical sets, including a recreated bombed-out 1940s London and the fantasy realms. Seamus McGarvey shot the film. Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt wrote the score, and Gerwig has described Narnia as a universe built out of music. The trailer plays over a classic rock soundtrack.
The reported budget is $200 million. Carey Mulligan plays Digory’s mother. CiarĂ¡n Hinds, Denise Gough, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Susan Wokoma and Samantha Spiro are also in the cast.
When to see it
IMAX previews begin February 10, 2027. The wide release is February 12, and the film arrives on Netflix on April 2. It is Netflix’s first major theatrical release. The film was first set for Thanksgiving 2026.
