Max Verstappen Extends Red Bull Contract Through 2030
Max Verstappen has ended months of speculation about his Formula 1 future. The four time champion signed a contract extension with Red Bull Racing that keeps him with the team through the end of the 2030 season.
His previous deal ran through 2028. Reports surfaced this year that his management had held talks with McLaren about a possible switch for 2027. Those talks ended with the announcement, made just ahead of Verstappen’s home race in the Netherlands.
Fifteen Seasons And Counting
Verstappen joined Red Bull in 2016 after a mid season promotion from the team’s junior outfit. He has since won four Drivers’ Championships, in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024. By the time the new contract runs out, he will be 33 years old, having spent 15 seasons with the team.
A Changed Team Around Him
Red Bull looks different than the team Verstappen joined. Key figures including Helmut Marko, Adrian Newey, and Christian Horner have all departed in recent years. Laurent Mekies has led the team as principal since July 2025.
Why Now
Speculation this year grew alongside Verstappen’s reaction to Formula 1’s new technical regulations. Interest from Mercedes had already been headed off last year by performance related clauses in his existing contract, per the same report.
Verstappen said he was pleased with how things landed, adding that he’s “excited to keep working together with everyone” as the team looks to return to the front.
