Marvel Finally Puts Faces to Its X-Men
Marvel fans have asked the same question for years: when do the X-Men show up. On August 14, Marvel Studios answered it at D23 in Anaheim, walking its first mutant cast onto the stage after months of speculation about who would play them.
Sadie Sink returns as Jean Grey, a role she quietly introduced earlier this year in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. She was joined by Kit Connor as Cyclops, Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, and Maya Boyd as Storm. Feige noted that several of the actors had met each other backstage for the first time that day.
Jake Schreier, who directed Thunderbolts*, is behind the camera. The film has no title yet but a release date: May 5, 2028.
Adam Driver Is the Villain
The biggest reveal didn’t walk out live. Adam Driver appeared in a prerecorded video from a soundstage at Pinewood Studios and announced his character: Nathaniel Milbury, an identity long associated with the X-Men villain Mister Sinister. He started to say he was playing Magneto before catching himself and revealing the real name.
Not the Full Roster
Feige was clear this lineup isn’t finished. Magneto, Beast, and Wolverine remain uncast, along with several other mutants closely tied to the team’s history. More announcements are expected in the months ahead.
This marks the first X-Men film produced under the Marvel Studios banner since Disney acquired 20th Century Fox in 2019. Fox’s own X-Men series ran from 2000 to 2019 across thirteen films, with Patrick Stewart, Hugh Jackman, and Halle Berry among its faces. The new film arrives after Avengers: Secret Wars, which is set for December 2027.
