Marvel Brings Endgame Back to Theaters Ahead of Doomsday
Avengers: Endgame is heading back to the big screen. Marvel Studios confirmed the film will return to theaters on September 25, 2026 under a new title, Avengers: Endgame Encore, timed to build anticipation for the studio’s next Avengers installment.
A Different Cut, Not a Rerun
Marvel revealed the return at San Diego Comic-Con. Directors Joe Russo and Anthony Russo confirmed the Encore version includes new footage rather than a straight replay of the original film. According to The Direct, the added material runs roughly four minutes and is built to better set up the next chapter of the franchise.
What’s Waiting Before the Movie
The main draw for a lot of fans will be what plays before the movie. Moviegoers attending the Encore presentation will receive an exclusive look at Avengers: Doomsday, which arrives in theaters December 18, 2026. Audiences who go a step further and catch the film on IMAX or one of Disney’s new Infinity Vision certified screens get an additional sneak peek on top of that.
Inside the Infinity Vision Format
Infinity Vision is a new premium format Disney created specifically around this release window. It is a certification that movie screens can receive to declare that they meet high technical standards for size, picture quality, brightness, and sound, and Endgame Encore will be the first film to carry it.
Where It Fits in Marvel’s Calendar
The timing lines up with a bigger MCU push. The rerelease sits between Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which debuted in July, and Avengers: Doomsday in December. Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo are also directing Doomsday, which marks Robert Downey Jr.’s return to Marvel, this time playing the villain Doctor Doom.
The Box Office Numbers Behind the Comeback
Endgame’s original 2019 run remains one of the biggest in box office history. The film earned the biggest opening weekend of all time globally, with a $1.9 billion haul, and grossed more than $2.7 billion at the global box office, a number that still sits second only to the original Avatar.
What Marvel Hasn’t Said Yet
Marvel has stayed quiet on the full contents of the new footage, leaving fans to guess whether it sets up Doomsday directly or includes a surprise cameo. What has been confirmed is a new introduction, extra footage, and a special end tag. Per Collider, that added material is exclusive to IMAX and Infinity Vision screens rather than standard screenings.
