Cebu Pacific is giving your carry-on three more kilos
If you’ve ever had to cram a jacket back into your suitcase because the gate agent’s scale said no, this one’s for you. Cebu Pacific passengers get a heavier hand carry allowance starting September 15, 2026, when the weight limit on 5J flights rises from seven kilograms to ten. The change surfaced first through a social media card about new baggage rules, and travelers had to ask Cebu Pacific directly on X to confirm it wasn’t a hoax. Cebu Pacific confirmed the September 15 effective date in a reply to one of them. That X reply is, so far, the airline’s most public confirmation. Interaksyon noted Cebu Pacific hadn’t posted a formal advisory on its own channels yet, even though Aviation Updates Philippines had already received the same policy details as a press release.
Cebgo flights, running under the DG code, keep the old seven kilogram limit. The extra allowance is a 5J-only perk, so check your flight code before you start packing heavier.
The rest of the rules didn’t move
You still get two items in the cabin: one bag for the overhead bin, one personal item under the seat. Size limits are the same too, 56 by 36 by 23 centimeters for the main bag and 20 by 35 by 20 for the personal item. The increase is a weight change, not permission for a bigger suitcase, so don’t show up with a bigger duffel expecting extra grace.
You’re also still on the hook for lifting and stowing your own bag. No help from crew there.
What happens if you’re over
Go over on weight, size, or piece count and that bag gets checked at the gate, plus the usual fees. If you’d rather not gamble at the counter, Cebu Pacific wants you prepping ahead: add checked baggage through Manage Booking with your MyCebuPacific account before you even leave the house.
Before you fly
The upside lands hardest for short-haul flyers, the ones trying to do a Manila-Cebu-Davao hop with nothing but a cabin bag. The extra weight applies across domestic and international 5J flights the same way, so it isn’t a quirk of one route. If you’re flying before September 15, the old seven kilogram limit still applies.
