Carlos Yulo Wins Second Straight Asian Games Gold
Carlos Yulo topped the men’s vault final Friday at Nagoya City General Gymnasium in Japan, scoring an average of 14.599 across two vaults. The result gave the Philippines its second gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, both won by Yulo in the span of a single day.
Yulo posted 14.733 on his first vault and 14.466 on his second. Iran’s Mahdi Olfati took silver with a 14.533 average. Hong Kong’s Ng Ka Ki, who had topped qualifying, rounded out the podium with 14.116.
From a Fall to the Top Step
Yulo’s road to the final wasn’t clean. A fall on his first vault in qualifying left him in seventh with a 13.649 average. In the final, he edged Olfati, who opened with a strong 15.100 first vault before faltering on his second attempt.
Friday’s win followed his floor exercise gold the day before, which gave the Philippines its first-ever Asian Games gymnastics medal.
The Medal Count So Far
The Philippines now holds two gold medals at these Games, one silver, and four bronze, with both golds courtesy of Yulo.

Yulo wasn’t done for the day. He was scheduled to compete in the parallel bars later Friday, with a chance at a third gold before the Games close.
