Alex Eala’s Wimbledon campaign came to an end with a loss to Italy’s Jasmine Paolini.
Eala entered Wimbledon 2026 and advanced through the draw with wins over Renata Zarazua and Maya Joint, then recorded a major upset by defeating defending champion Iga Swiatek in the third round on Centre Court. That victory made Eala the first Filipino singles player to reach the fourth round of a Grand Slam in the Open era and extended what many outlets described as a dream run for the 21 year old.
In the Round of 16, Eala faced Paolini, an Italian player who has previously reached Grand Slam finals and was again pushing for a deep run. Paolini won the match in three sets and secured her place in the quarterfinals, with Eala’s 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 defeats marking the end of her campaign at this year’s Wimbledon.
This result closes Eala’s participation at the 2026 Championships but adds another significant milestone to her growing career, combining a historic run to the last 16 with experience against top level opponents on one of tennis’s biggest stages.
