Albert Ian Delos Santos: Three Golds, Two Records in Tashkent
Filipino weightlifter Albert Ian Delos Santos won three gold medals in the junior men’s 70kg division at the Asian Youth & Junior Weightlifting Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on Tuesday, Aug. 11. He broke two world standard marks along the way.
The Lifts
Delos Santos topped the snatch with 141kg. In the clean and jerk, he lifted 180kg, breaking the previous world standard mark of 179kg. His total of 321kg also broke the world standard mark of 318kg.
The 19-year-old Zamboanga City native was the silver medalist at the 2025 Southeast Asian Games.
The Podium
Iran’s Mehrab Davasari took silver with a total of 299kg, 22kg behind Delos Santos. He placed fourth in snatch at 134kg and second in clean and jerk at 165kg.
India’s Yash Vinod Khandagale claimed bronze with a total of 298kg. He placed second in snatch at 140kg and fourth in clean and jerk at 158kg.
A Second Record This Year
Delos Santos’s Tashkent performance was not his first record of the year. In May, he reset the world junior record in clean and jerk at the IWF World Junior Weightlifting Championships in Ismailia, Egypt. That competition was in a different weight class, at 71kg.
