LG and Nvidia Just Accelerated Robot Learning in Seoul
Four days after signing a partnership agreement, LG and Nvidia were already back in the same room.
On August 13, LG Group chairman Koo Kwang-mo and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang signed a memorandum of understanding at Nvidia’s Santa Clara headquarters, covering robotics, AI factories, and mobility. By August 18, senior Nvidia officials were on the ground at LG’s Data Factory in Seoul’s Yangjae R&D campus, reviewing construction progress and discussing data-collection strategy for the site.
Building the flywheel
The Data Factory is still under construction. It spans four floors, including one basement level, across 10,000 square meters in Seocho district. LG expects it to be fully operational and housing several hundred robots by the end of 2026.
Inside, the setup mirrors real conditions LG already knows well. There is a full-scale residential environment where LG’s CLOiD home robots practice cleaning tasks, and a production floor modeled on LG’s washing machine plant in Tennessee, where robots move, stack, and assemble parts. Robots are also training inside LG CNS logistics automation systems and an LG Innotek environment built for robotic hand development.
LG calls the approach a data flywheel: collect data from real operations, combine it with synthetic data generated through Nvidia’s tools, then feed both back into training so performance compounds over time. The company is pairing decades of manufacturing and logistics data with Nvidia’s robotics stack, including Nvidia Omniverse libraries, Cosmos open world models, and the Isaac robotics development platform.
The target: 100,000 hours
By year end, LG wants 100,000 hours of training data pulled from a mix of real-world collection at the Seoul site and synthetic data built with Nvidia’s tools. LG says that volume is roughly equivalent to 12 years of continuous robot operation. The data is meant to train LG’s Robot Foundation Model, the system underpinning the company’s push into humanoid robot performance.
LG launched a dedicated Robotics Business Center last month that reports directly to the CEO. The unit is expanding LG’s robot lineup beyond industrial and commercial use into home robots, and the Seoul facility is where that expansion gets tested.
