Carlos Yulo Heads to Worlds in Rotterdam Fresh Off Two Asian Games Golds
Carlos Yulo goes into the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships with two new Asian Games golds. The event runs in Rotterdam from October 17 to 25.
Yulo is 26. In the final stretch before Worlds, he was training in Antibes, France, with his younger brother Karl Eldrew and national team coach Aldrin Castaneda. He said the camp was almost complete and the team was ready.
Two golds in Nagoya
Yulo won the floor exercise at the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya on September 24. It was his first medal at the Games. He took vault gold the next day. Floor and vault are the same two events that gave him gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
He finished fourth on parallel bars with a 14.300 and ended the Games as the most decorated athlete in the Philippine delegation.
At the 2018 Asian Games, Yulo topped floor qualifying and then placed seventh in the final. Eight years later, he won it.
Resting for the Asian Games
Yulo won vault gold at the 2025 World Championships in Jakarta while managing a wrist injury that limited his program. Afterward, he said the buildup had left his body overused. He planned to skip the SEA Games to recover.
He said then that he would try the all-around in 2026 and that the Asian Games were his main target.
Six events on the list
Yulo wants the individual all-around title in Rotterdam. He also hopes to contend for titles on all six apparatuses. “I’m gonna do a six apparatus, and hopefully we get the titles,” he said. He added that he wants to win a medal.
Floor and vault remain his strongest events. He says there is always more to improve on.
His Worlds history
Yulo’s Worlds story began in Doha in 2018, where a floor bronze made him the first Filipino to medal at the championships. In Stuttgart in 2019, he won floor with a 15.300 and became the first Filipino world champion.
Vault gold and parallel bars silver followed in 2021. In 2022, he took vault silver and parallel bars bronze. Jakarta in 2025 added vault gold and floor bronze. That makes eight world medals, three of them gold.
