Cebu Pacific Brings Starlink Wifi in 2027
Cebu Pacific will begin fitting Starlink satellite internet across its fleet starting in 2027, making it the first low-cost carrier in Southeast Asia to commit to the service. The airline announced the partnership with SpaceX’s satellite arm, joining a wave of budget carriers upgrading from older inflight wifi to low Earth orbit connectivity.
What Starlink Changes Onboard
Starlink runs on a network of low Earth orbit satellites built for high speed, low latency internet. Cebu Pacific says the system will support HD streaming, online gaming, video calls, and work throughout a flight, a real step up from traditional inflight wifi. The airline also expects the tech to improve connectivity for flight crews and operational teams.
Part of a Bigger Rollout
Cebu Pacific’s parent investor, Indigo Partners, is fitting Starlink across more than 1,000 aircraft operated by its global airline portfolio. Frontier in the US, Wizz Air in Europe, Volaris in Mexico, and JetSMART in South America are all getting the same upgrade, with several announcing their own Starlink deals the same day.
What’s Still Unknown
Cebu Pacific has not said which aircraft or routes get Starlink first, how quickly the system will spread across the fleet, or whether passengers will pay to connect. The airline says more details will follow closer to launch.
Why It Fits the Airline
Xander Lao, Cebu Pacific’s President and Chief Commercial Officer, said the update reflects how passenger expectations have shifted, with staying connected in flight becoming less of a luxury and more of a baseline expectation. He said the airline plans to keep fares low even as it adds the new technology.
Cebu Pacific operates a fleet of 100 aircraft, among the youngest in the world, flying to 35 domestic and 26 international destinations across Asia, Australia, and the Middle East. The airline also flies from Sydney and Melbourne to Manila four times a week.
