Yulo Brothers Head to Rotterdam World Championships
Carlos and Eldrew Yulo will lead the Philippine team at the 54th FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Rotterdam, October 17 to 25. Both arrive with medals from the Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan.
Haylee Garcia and Juancho Besana also represent the country. Both Yulos are expected to enter the individual all-around. Besana will focus on individual events.
Medals from Nagoya
Carlos won gold in floor exercise and vault in Nagoya, the same two events he won at the Paris Olympics. Eldrew, 18, took bronze on horizontal bar.
Carlos says Nagoya doubled as preparation for Worlds. He plans to compete on all six apparatuses and hopes to reach finals. He also says he wants to watch the field and see how the rotations go.
Eldrew’s First Senior Worlds
Rotterdam is Eldrew’s senior World Championships debut. His last World Championships appearance was the 2025 junior edition, held at home, where he won bronze on floor and horizontal bar.
This year he won floor gold at the Antalya World Cup and bronzes on floor and horizontal bar in Cairo. In June he took floor bronze behind Carlos at the Asian Championships in Zunyi.
Eldrew says he wants clean routines and wants the whole team to enjoy the experience. He expects to learn from the atmosphere in Rotterdam.
Camp in France First
After the team’s homecoming in Manila, the brothers went to France to train. Coach Aldrin CastaƱeda, a team assistant and a physiotherapist are with them. The group moves on to the Netherlands from there.
Brothers on One Team
Carlos has three world titles: floor in 2019 and vault in 2021 and 2025. Eldrew says Carlos is a teammate, with no rivalry between them. Carlos says he is proud of his brother’s growth and glad to compete alongside him. Rotterdam will be the third meet they have entered together this year, after Zunyi and Nagoya.
Carlos says next year’s World Championships matter most for Olympic qualifying.
