Carlos Yulo and Chloe San Jose Announce Engagement, Nine Months After the Proposal
Carlos Yulo and Chloe San Jose are engaged. Yulo proposed on December 18, 2025, and the couple announced it on Monday, September 28, in posts on Instagram and Facebook.
The announcement
San Jose wrote that they spent the nine months keeping the news between them, smiling to themselves until they were ready to share it. The announcement came days after Yulo won gold in vault and floor exercise at the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan. Those were the Philippines’ first two golds of the Games and the first Asian Games medals of any color for a Filipino gymnast.
The proposal
It happened at a resort in Tagaytay, with candles, flowers and a “Will You Marry Me?” sign mounted in the greenery. Yulo planned it for almost three months.
When he asked, San Jose said, “Is this real?” He asked again, this time using her full name, Chloe Anjeleigh San Jose, and she said yes. Then he knelt a second time with another ring. In the proposal video he said he has two Olympic gold medals and she is the gold medal of his heart, so she got two rings.
How they met
It started in 2020, when San Jose sent Yulo a Twitter DM to say she was a fan. He replied. They were long-distance for a while before they could finally be together every day.
San Jose wrote that the years since were airports, competitions, hotel rooms and long training days. They stayed together through a public rift with Yulo’s parents, who were against the relationship.
The ring email
On “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” in March, the couple said Yulo had tried to buy a ring in Japan and Singapore. San Jose said she saw a “reservation for a ring” notification in his email without meaning to. She told him, since they are open with each other, and the surprise was gone. Yulo said he held off on buying one.
After the Asian Games
Yulo, San Jose and his brother Eldrew came home on Sunday to a surprise welcome from supporters. Eldrew won bronze on the horizontal bar in his first Asian Games. Yulo thanked San Jose for sharing her family with him and Eldrew.
In a Karen Davila interview uploaded on September 10, Yulo said he wants an intimate wedding focused on the two of them.
