Carmelle Collado Is the Philippines’ First Eurovision Asia Representative
Carmelle Collado is going to Bangkok. On Sunday, August 30, the 19 year old singer won the Philippine Selection Night at the New Frontier Theater in Quezon City, earning the right to represent the Philippines at the inaugural Eurovision Song Contest Asia on November 14.
Her winning entry, “Sobra-Sobra,” beat nine other finalists. The track was composed by Nica del Rosario and Mat Olavides. Vice Ganda hosted the selection show, with Darren Espanto and Alexa Ilacad as cohosts.
Three Groups Decided the Result
A professional jury, the Philippine public, and international fans each had a stake in the outcome. The jury counted for 40 percent of the score, the Philippine public vote counted for another 40 percent, and a Rest of the World vote from fans abroad made up the final 20 percent.
SAGA’s “Broken Beyond Repair” placed second, and “Mapadama,” performed by JM dela Cerna and Marielle Montellano, placed third.
Collado could barely find the words for it afterward. “I’m really happy, super, super duper happy,” she said, thanking her fans for their votes.
A Familiar Face on a New Stage
Collado has been here before. She finished as runner up on “The Voice Kids Philippines” in 2019, then became the first grand champion of “Tawag ng Tanghalan: The School Showdown” in 2025. She also spent time in the “Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Collab Edition 2.0” house.
Bangkok is a bigger stage. The Philippines is one of 11 countries confirmed for the first Eurovision Song Contest Asia, a new regional expansion of the long running European format. The event runs November 14, where Collado will face competitors from Malaysia, Bhutan, and other confirmed nations.
